Wellington Country Park was originally formed as a carp fishing syndicate by Laurie Tucker back in 2001.
However the syndicate was truly made famous by the huge numbers of 50lb carp resident. Regularly gracing the pages of Carp World, Carp Talk and many of the other printed magazines at the time. Even having a Korda Thinking Tackle filmed in the now famous swims named after Laurie Tucker.
Many great well known anglers have graced its banks and held these now historic fish.
Wellington Country Park continues to produce numbers of big carp, currently home to 7 50lb carp, with the current lake record at 59lb and hopefully soon to break the 60lb mark again like it’s 60lb predecessor Scruffy Bob.
The carp fishing at Welly come in all shapes and sizes. But the most saught after are the older Belgium Blue Heart Tailed Mirrors. The current lake record was a fish called Scruffy Bob, which is sadly no longer with us. However two fish come very close and hopefully will pass that 60lb mark soon, called the Pretty Mirror and Willow.
We have also had what most syndicate members class as the best fish in the lake pass 50lb for the first time this year, The Pretty Sutton (Pictured above).
There are currently 7 50lb carp at Wellington Country Park
